Choice Magazine recently ran a story on trans fats levels in a range of processed foods. They discovered higher than acceptable levels in a number of foods, including some meat pies, pasties and sausage rolls. These contained more than 4% trans fats (as a % of total fat) and would be unable to be sold in a number of European Countries. Choice Magazine is calling for mandatory labeling to allow consumers to make informed choices and avoid foods that are high in trans fat.
Mrs Mac's is one of the few savoury pastry manufacturers that already include trans fat values on our packaging. Below is a summary of some of the quantities in a number of our popular lines. It is clear that not all savoury pastry products contain high levels of trans fats, and consumers should shop around to find the healthiest option. Mrs Mac's products contain significantly less trans fats than many competitor products as highlighted in the Choice research.
