Hybrid Environmentally - friendly Trucks

As part of the Mrs Mac's initiative to contribute to reduce carbon footprint emissions and its commitment to deliver fresh quality products, Mrs Mac's have been trialling a number of new vehicles to supplement its delivery vehicles and replace old models with new technologies that have less negative impact on the environment.

Mrs Mac's is the first company in WA to step up in the usage of the new hybrid technology with Eutectic Refrigeration. This revolutionary refrigeration system absorbs large amounts of thermal energy when a substance changes its state (for example when it changes from solid to liquid). The first truck is currently on the road and the plan is to add more to the fleet by the end of 2012.

Hino's hybrid system does not have (or require) a conventional starter motor or alternator. Instead, it uses the electric drive motor as a diesel-engine starter motor and has a converter to create 24-volt power for the lights, electronics and cabin functions.

The diesel engine combined with electric driver motors delivers more power, and the range is also fitted with vehicle stability control offering drivers an increased ability to maintain control of the vehicle when fully loaded.

As well as a new engine, Mrs Mac's has had significant input into the design and layout of the truck body and the selection and placement of the refrigeration unit.

Mrs Macs expects to have significant savings in terms of diesel fuel costs and maintenance on the refrigeration plant as it will no longer have to run the diesel engines to maintain the temperature of the load.

It's just a small way to pave our path to a happier and healthier environment!
