Mrs Mac's recently stumbled upon a remarkable blast from the past - in manner of a few war veteran souls from the 4th Field Regiment, their endearingly ambitious jingles and their hankering for meat pies.

Whilst entrenched in a diggers mess in Nui, Dat Vietnam in 1970, the then-21 year old soldiers wistfully composed and recorded a few advertising songs spurred by their insatiable craving for "some Swan Lager, Bakewell Pies and Samboy Chips."

Owing to the wonders of the internet, these songs eventually found their way to Mrs Mac's (formerly Bakewell), in Perth, Western Australia some 40 years later.

The Mrs Mac's community recently had the extraordinary pleasure of coming across a tribute to Mrs Mac's pies. The song was written and sung by Francis Edwards in the 'voice' of Digger Dave, after the original Vietnam Veterans audio files surfaced in early 2010. In Francis' words, he decided to record this song after feeling "compelled to complete the circle in the saga".
